Wickwar Out of School Club Temporary closure Updated Tuesday 19th May 2020 (for full details of the most recent communication click here)

As we explained in our last update, it is not certain that schools will be able to open from 1st June 2020, however Alexander Hosea School (AHS) is planning a phased return of children from Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 as far as possible.

We understand that parents/carers would have expectations of Wickwar Out of School Club (WOOSC) if the school is able to re-open on 1st June. The Chairman of WOOSC has been in contact with Mrs. Williams to discuss the practicalities of re-opening both settings and how it would work in practice.

It is clear that the preventative measures being undertaken by AHS, such as minimising contact and social mixing, would be at risk of be undermined if WOOSC were to re-open to the year groups proposed at the current time given the limitations of our setting. In addition, it is not viable from a financial or staffing point of view for WOOSC to re-open to a single group of children in Term 6 to maintain these preventative measures.

The Committee has therefore concluded that we will plan for opening in September 2020 and Wickwar Out of School Club will remain closed until then. Our priority will be to make sure that everyone coming into club is safe and that we are able to maintain the strict COVID-19 Secure guidelines required by the Department of Education at that time.

Our Aims

- To provide fun, quality, affordable out of school childcare in a safe caring environment for children in full time primary education.

- To offer free play, giving children a wide choice of activities, including relaxation, craft and recreational activities.

- To provide equal opportunities for all the children in our care.

About the Club

Wickwar Out of School Club (WOOSC) is based on the site of Alexander Hosea Primary School (AHPS) and was opened in 1998. We are registered with Ofsted to care for up to 40 children before and after school and during the school holidays.

Click here to view a copy of our Club Handbook.

Please be aware that in extreme weather conditions where travelling could be hazardous or AHPS is closed, WOOSC will not open.

The majority of our children attend sessions regularly, however adhoc (Casual) sessions may be available and is dependent on the number of children attending any one session.

Children attending AHPS who use the before or after school clubs are taken to the school playground at 8.50am for the start of their school day and are collected directly from AHPS at 3.30pm when school finishes.  We also collect the infant children when attending school enrichment clubs.

For the users of the After School Sessions, drinks are always available and nutritious snacks are provided.

We are a non-profit making organisation run by a Voluntary Management Committee. The Committee is made up of parents and carers who are elected at the club’s Annual General Meeting and are responsible for the policy and practice of the club, charges and staff employment.

We are registered to use the Olive Pollard Community Room plus have access to the school hall, music room, the infant play area and the large playing field of AHPS.

All managerial staff have an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check where appropriate and relevant childcare qualifications.
